Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's Returns to 4Kids/Toonzai

via Nebs Blog

As of last Saturday, Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's returned to the CW4Kids Saturday morning block after an exclusive stint on Cartoon Network for nearly a year. 4Kids had removed the program from their block due to low interest, & soon after CN became the exclusive home for new episodes. Well, that & 4Kids' online video player. But now the series has come back to its original home, since as we've known for sometime now, CN didn't plan to have 5D's back on this Fall. Currently they're playing catchup by showing the "new" episodes that never aired on the CW, though it's not known if 4Kids Entertainment plans on going past that & dubbing the third season of the anime. The Cartoon Network episodes at least made it to the end of season 2 (aka the Dark Signers saga).

Also of note is that the CW4Kids has started running promos advertising for Toonzai to begin airing this Fall. When 4Kids first announced the re-branding back in April, Toonzai was still just a tentative name. Looks like they're fully going forward with it now though.

Comic-Con: Viz Media

via Nebs Blog

Viz Media was of course on hand at Comic-Con this weekend, though they really didn't have that much new stuff to announce. The biggest being that of "Death Note: Black Edition," a re-release of the original Death Note manga in over-sized double-volume format in attractive new all-black covers. & really that was pretty much it.

However, Viz is finally making good use of their new YouTube Channel that they launched earlier this month at Anime Expo & uploaded a bunch of video coverage from the convention. It's the next best thing to being there! Of special note is the long video above that's from their Shonen Jump panel. In it they answer some FAQ's that involve, among other things, the possibility of licensing the Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's manga. The video also has an FAQ with Ultimo & Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei, who was (once again) a surprise guest at Comic-Con. Check out the video in full above, followed by tons more coverage (including Naruto & Vampire Knight) below:

Comic-Con: Yu-Gi-Oh

via Nebs Blog

Konami was on hand at Comic-Con this weekend, & they had Yu-Gi-Oh out in full force. The biggest surprise was that they had an American trailer for the 10th Anniversary Yu-Gi-Oh movie, confirming the earlier report that 4Kids had indeed licensed the film. The trailer was filmed (with permission) & can be seen above.

The movie itself will be released in select US theaters in the Spring of 2011, & will indeed be in 3D. A preview for it will be screened at the Yu-Gi-Oh World Championships in Long Beach, CA from August 14-15. It was also confirmed by the Konami staff that the US version will contain "new relevant additional footage" that wasn't in the Japanese version. Perhaps they'll explain just what the heck happened to Jaden after season 3 of GX, since dub-viewers wouldn't know.

Also, some freakishly huge & high-quality Duel Monsters figures were at the convention as well, courtesy of Good Smile:

Japanese Guy Wins US Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament

via Nebs Blog

The national Shonen Jump Championship, a card game tournament for Yu-Gi-Oh players, was held in Nashville, Tennessee earlier this year. & even though this was a US-based tournament, the winner of it all was a Japanese guy- Satoshi Kato- who traveled all the way from his home country to compete. Apparently this was Kato's fourth overall US Yu-Gi-Oh tournament, though his first time as winner. He won the competition using a Zombie Lightsworn Deck, which was the same type of deck his final opponent used as well (not to self: build a Zombie Lightsworn Deck). His prize as winner was the rare Dark End Dragon card.

Shonen Jump held an FAQ with Kato, where he discusses his history with Yu-Gi-Oh, his philosophy on being a strong duelist, & how he feels American duelists compare to Japanese ones. You can read it right over here:

Kaiba's Father to be Revealed!

via Nebs Blog

Nearly two years ago now, LittleKuriboh took us on an epic journey to learn the true identity of Kaiba's real father. & then did nothing with it, leaving all of us hanging & wondering what he was attempting to do with that. Until now! LK has announced in his latest video that all will finally be revealed during the AnimeNEXT convention in New Jersey, which is being held next weekend. He'll be there in person, presumably with a new video that will conclude this timeless wonder. More than likely, the video will then be added to his YouTube channel after the convention ends so that the rest of us wont be left hanging.

So who will his father be?! Could it really be one of the potential suspects shown in the previous video? Could it be Bill Gates, or Tony Stark, or HeavyDDR, or Pokemon's Brock? & even after nearly two years later, why do we still not have a Shenmue III? Find out at AnimeNEXT from June 18-20! LK will be there, as will Krooooze:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged 47

via Nebs Blog

Episode 47 - Beyond the Fourth Wall

Season 3 of "Yu-Gi-Oh: the Abridged Series" is here at last! Or should we say "Yu-Gi-Oh: the Canceled Series?" Melvin may have initiated the demise of the series, but now the Big Five & someone who looks like season 0 Kaiba (the forbidden season!) are working on 4Kids' behalf to make sure Yugi-tachi's series remains doomed. Will they succeed?!

Also, this marks the first time that LK is using a large supporting cast for the new characters in the series, & not just voicing them all himself. So enjoy hearing some of the TeamFourStar guys & a few others as well!

Funny, I don't remember any of this happening in the manga....

Beyblade Metal Fusion on American TV

via Nebs Blog

More information on the English dub of Beyblade: Metal Fusion on American TV has been brought to light as of late. Naturally, Canada will be getting the series first. Makes sense considering Corus Entertainment is a Canadian company that owns the English rights to the franchise. & they'll be getting it quick, too. The series will premiere on YTV on May 15 at noon with what they're calling a "feature-length episode," which we can presume means they'll be playing the first two or three episodes back-to-back. New episodes will then be shown every Saturday afternoon at the same time. It's also worth noting that this series & Pokemon will be the only anime series on YTV's schedule, a sad fact considering the large amount of anime they used to show.

As for US viewers, Cartoon Network has confirmed that they are indeed the ones who will be broadcasting the series. CN made the announcement during their Upfront presentation, an event where networks present their plans for the upcoming television season- in this case, the 2010-2011 season beginning this Fall. No exact date was given, but Fall seems the most likely. CN also confirmed that both Bakugan & Pokemon would be returning in the Fall with new seasons & episodes. Unfortunately, there was no mention of Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, which isn't good considering CN is the only place to watch the series.

As for Beyblade: Metal Fusion, a description for the English version was given out by Corus. Note that they refer to the main character as "Gingka" instead of his Japanese name "Ginga." It's uncertain at this point if that was just a typo or a deliberate name change:

Following the Let it Rip phenomena that took over the TV screens and playgrounds in 2002, Beyblade makes its much anticipated return with a brand new generation of characters who take on the battle between good and evil. Competing for dominance with their spinning Beyblade tops, the perilous organization of the Dark Nebula is vying for world domination. The only person standing in their way is teenager Gingka, who struggles to find his strength to honour Beyblade and save the world.

Yu-Gi-Oh Coming to Xbox Live Arcade

via Nebs Blog

Konami releases new Yu-Gi-Oh video games for different systems all the time. These days it's mostly for handhelds like the Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP. But now they're releasing a new children's card game video game where they never released one before- for the Xbox live Arcade. This Spring, get ready for "Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels." Presumably the title comes from Yu-Gi-Oh celebrating its 10th anniversary this year (in Japan at least- it doesn't reach 10 years in the US until next year).

Even though this isn't the kind of game where you go out & buy a disc or cartridge to play it on, it's still a full-fledged Yu-Gi-Oh title. It even comes with a story mode, where you're able to add new cards & booster packs for your digital deck. Plus it allows you to play online against other duelists who are on Xbox Live, which includes Tag Duels as well. You can also customize your own rules, voice chat with your opponent, & view leader boards.

4Kids Streams Subbed Sonic X

via Nebs Blog

I mentioned this in the most recent This Week in Free Anime & Manga post, but it's worth mentioning again in its own topic. For the first time ever, 4Kids Entertainment is streaming uncut, subtitled Japanese episodes of their Sonic X series. Currently the complete first season (26 episodes) have been uploaded to Hulu, making it the first 4Kids series on the site. When the episodes first went up late last week, there were problems with the subtitles for episodes 2 & 7, but these look to have now been fixed.

4Kids originally released a subbed Sonic X test video in July of last year, back when they were at the height of experimenting with subbing their series. & then in August, a 4Kids employee wrote on a now-defunct unofficial blog that full subbed episodes of both Sonic X & Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's would begin rolling out in the Fall. Well the Sonic episodes are a half year behind schedule, but at least they're finally here now. Still no sign of official subtitled episodes of 5D's, but hopefully those are just around the corner as well. For now, check out Sonic X subbed here:
