Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Trailer

via Nebs Anime Blog

An official teaser trailer for the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal anime series has been added to the official TV Tokyo website, & has now been embedded above for your viewing pleasure.

Information from the website, trailer, & the recently begun manga version have revealed that the main protagonist- 13-year-old Yuma Tugumo will be joined by a mysterious lifeform from a parallel world (a Duel Monster?) named Astral. Yuma apparently lost his explorer parents during one of their adventures, but keeps a special necklace given to him by his mother. A new type of summoning monsters, currently being called Exceeds Summoning, will also play a key role in the series. More information as it becomes available!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Revealed

via Nebs Anime Blog

Some early information on the previously mentioned new Yu-Gi-Oh series has been leaked! Titled "Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal," the series will focus on a new duelist named Yuma Tsukumo. As I expected, the new series will launch this April. Besides the anime, a manga adaptation will also be released. Judging by the little bit we can see of the series, Zexal will be abandoning the idea of older characters in 5D's & instead focus on younger characters.

Original Yu-Gi-Oh creator Kazuki Takahashi & his Studio Dice will once again create the story & characters. The anime episodes will be directed by Satoshi Kuwahara (Black Jack 21, Tezuka Osamu ga Kieta, Astro Boy: Shinsen-gumi), scripts by Shin Yoshida (Yu-Gi-Oh DM, Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Yu-Gi-Oh 3D), character design adaptations by Hirotoshi Takaya (Chouja Reideen, Eyeshield 21, Kekkaishi), & duels will once again be supervised by Masahiro Hikokubo, who's done the same for every single past YGO series & movie.

Personally I wonder how the title is supposed to be pronounced by English speakers. The katakana indicates that the Japanese pronunciation for Zexal is "Ze-a-ru." So is "Zay-al" correct? Or how about simply "Zeal"? Either way, it's apparent that the X is supposed to be silent. Anyway, more information as it becomes available!

New Yu-Gi-Oh Series to be Announced

via Nebs Anime Blog

It seems that Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's is nearing its end, as a brand new Yu-Gi-Oh anime series is set to begin next year. It was announced that information on a fourth series will be revealed during the special encore screening of the Yu-Gi-Oh 3D Movie this February in Japan. Speculatively speaking, this means 5D's might end as early as March & the mysterious new series could begin in April 2011, giving 5D's a solid three full year run. We can also only guess what the new series will be like, but I'm thinking where can you go after card games on motorcycles other than card games... IN SPACE! We'll have to wait until February though to get all the info.

Interestingly enough, Yu-Gi-Oh creator Kazuki Takahashi himself originally stated that 5D's was to be the last of the franchise back when it was first beginning. In fact he only agreed on creating a third series on the condition that it'd be the final one. Guess things change over time. That & money, which I'm sure also played a factor in the Konami & TV Tokyo executives twisting Kazuki-sensei's arm into doing another one of these.

Yu-Gi-Oh 3D's US Theatrical Run Dated

via Nebs Anime Blog

We’ve known for a while now that 4Kids Entertainment was planning a theatrical release for the Yu-Gi-Oh 3D Movie for an early 2011 run. & even though they said this, somehow I still had my doubts. But now the release information for the film has been revealed, & we’ll indeed be getting it in theaters! However, it will only be in a limited number of theaters across the country & only for a few days.

On February 26-27 & again the following weekend on March 5-6, the 3D movie will be playing in about 250 theaters across the US, along with planned releases in Europe & Asia as well. Exact locations & other information will be coming out in due time as we get closer to the premiere. Also as was previously revealed, this new cut of the film will contain 10 additional minutes of new material not seen when it first screened in Japan. So get your decks & 3D glasses ready, duelists!

Black Magician Girl Figure in Color

via Nebs Anime Blog

Remember that prototype Yu-Gi-Oh Black Magician Girl figure that was posted last week? Well it's out of the concept stage & has moved on to pre-production! Fully-painted models have begun to appear & pre-orders are now being taken.

Her size has been confirmed at 1/7 scale, which might sound a bit on the small side especially since she's kneeling down, but that large hat of hers should help make up for the size & really make her stand out on your shelf. The figure was designed & heavily supervised by YGO manga-ka Kazuki Takahashi himself. Though unlike the anime version of Dark Magician Girl, the figure version is clearly wearing panties. BMG comes with two different facial expressions, a mini-poster, & perhaps best of all, a little Kuriboh keychain!

Due out sometime in March 2011, the Black Magician Girl is being retailed at 7140 yen (~$88). She's Japan-only, but you can import her at several online shops. I already got mine reserved!

Youmacon 2010 Abridged Videos

via Nebs Anime Blog

Youmacon 2010 is over, & the abridging guys over at Yu-Gi-Oh & TeamFourStar have posted the new videos they debuted there. For Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, LK debuted the special 50th episode of the series. He did a good job referencing past episodes & characters & paying tribute to the YGO franchise as a whole, while at the same time continuing on with the current story arc without interrupting it.

Meanwhile the TeamFourStar guys had a new episode of DragonBall Z Abridged that featured the anticipated debut of the Abridged version of the Ginyu force. In addition, they also showed off their brand new special project- One Piece Abridged! Check out both videos below:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Black Magician Girl Figure

via Nebs Anime Blog

Yu-Gi-Oh has never been a franchise to be featured a lot in the figurine department, but recently that has started to change. First we had those crazy expensive Duel Monsters dragons that were revealed earlier this year, & now this. One of the most recognizable monsters from the original series, a figure of the Black Magician Girl / Dark Magician Girl seems to be in the works.

Expected to be due out sometime next year, this early prototype model is quite impressive looking. As well as a bit fan-servicey:

Yu-Gi-Oh Deluxe Sleeves

via Nebs Anime Blog

Those who play the Yu-Gi-Oh card game on a regular basis are aware that their precious cards can get damaged pretty easily. Even if you are careful with them, just normal usage is enough for to show some wear and tear. That's why most serious duelists use card sleeves to protect their cards. Well, IRL serious duelists. Of course no one in the series uses them. The characters in show can throw them like weapons or play them while riding on motorcycles at 70mph without worrying about anything happening to them at all. & there sorta lies the problem with using the sleeves in the real life card game. It puts up this wall of separation between fantasizing being a part of of the story & real life. Not to mention the sleeves often aren't the prettiest things in the world to look at.

That's why Konami has finally stepped in & released their own official Deluxe Card Sleeves for their Yu-Gi-Oh card game. These sleeves are transparent on the front side (as card sleeves normally are), but on the back side it mimics the back of the actual YGO cards, thus giving the illusion that you're playing without them & further erasing that line of separation. A pack of 50 sleeves will only run you $3.99, which isn't bad at all, though most duelists will wanna pick up at least two to cover their full deck & frequently played cards. The sleeves are in American stores now!
