4Kids Streams Subbed Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's
via Nebs Anime Blog
It's taken a year longer than originally planned, but 4Kids is finally streaming official subtitled episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's. The first six episodes are now online at Hulu. Last August, 4Kids had talked about streaming subbed 5D's in the Fall. Only it turned out to be Fall 2010 instead of Fall 2009. This latest delevopment comes after 4Kids began streaming subbed episodes of Sonic X earlier this year (which was also promised for last Fall). Since we likely wont be seeing official subs of the original YGO series ever again, the only thing left to wait for is GX, which 4Kids also said they'd do "after" 5D's. Whatever that means.
The episodes were also mirrored to 4Kids' brand new Toonzaki video site, which goes in conjunction with their new Toonzai anime block. In addition to 4Kids content, dozens of other anime series are streaming there as well, most completely uncut & in their original Japanese version with English subs... including One Piece! Other titles that you'd be surprised that 4Kids would ever be associated with include Fist of the North Star, Dragonaut, Shiki, Black Butler, & plenty of other mature series.

Episode 49 - The Incredible Hobson

I always thought it was creepy that Crump wanted the body of a teenage Japanese girl, & this episode of TAS plays up on that. By the way, this episode has a twist ending that's quite different from how things played out in the actual series. Interested to see where things go from here.

Episode 48 - Penguin Ex Machina
I'm pretty sure the opening bit is a reference to LittleKuriboh's original dubbing of that famous scene, where his British accent came out more noticeably than usual. Now if only Brits could actually talk like that ALL the time, and the world would be a much better place.
This episode of course guest stars the talented hbi2k as Gansley, founding member of the
Man, is Serenity really supposed to be 12? I guess that makes sense compared the other characters ages, but then again the characters in this series never really seemed to act their age either. I mean how can someone as bad ass as Kaiba only be 16? Anyway it sucks because I always had the hots for Serenity too. =b
Do da lalalalalalalala!! That little Kuriboh just activated Super Chibi Kawaii Desu Moe Mode! Wow, that's a full rainbow! It's a double rainbow all the way! Woah, that's so intense. Woah, woah!! Whoooo-hoohooo yeah!! Double rainbow all the way across the sky! What does this mean? It's so bright and vivid! It's so beautiful! It's a double complete rainbow! What does it mean?! Tell me, tell me what it means!

Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's Returns to 4Kids/Toonzai
via Nebs Anime Blog

As of last Saturday, Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's returned to the CW4Kids Saturday morning block after an exclusive stint on Cartoon Network for nearly a year. 4Kids had removed the program from their block due to low interest, & soon after CN became the exclusive home for new episodes. Well, that & 4Kids' online video player. But now the series has come back to its original home, since as we've known for sometime now, CN didn't plan to have 5D's back on this Fall. Currently they're playing catchup by showing the "new" episodes that never aired on the CW, though it's not known if 4Kids Entertainment plans on going past that & dubbing the third season of the anime. The Cartoon Network episodes at least made it to the end of season 2 (aka the Dark Signers saga).
Also of note is that the CW4Kids has started running promos advertising for Toonzai to begin airing this Fall. When 4Kids first announced the re-branding back in April, Toonzai was still just a tentative name. Looks like they're fully going forward with it now though.

Comic-Con: Viz Media
via Nebs Anime Blog
Viz Media was of course on hand at Comic-Con this weekend, though they really didn't have that much new stuff to announce. The biggest being that of "Death Note: Black Edition," a re-release of the original Death Note manga in over-sized double-volume format in attractive new all-black covers. & really that was pretty much it.
However, Viz is finally making good use of their new YouTube Channel that they launched earlier this month at Anime Expo & uploaded a bunch of video coverage from the convention. It's the next best thing to being there! Of special note is the long video above that's from their Shonen Jump panel. In it they answer some FAQ's that involve, among other things, the possibility of licensing the Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's manga. The video also has an FAQ with Ultimo & Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei, who was (once again) a surprise guest at Comic-Con. Check out the video in full above, followed by tons more coverage (including Naruto & Vampire Knight) below:
